Maggie Applebaum, MC, MA, RCC

INDIVIDUAL Adult & YOUTH THERAPIST

“I have always been inspired by witnessing the courage people have to work through challenges they face in order to lead healthy and fulfilling lives.”

I began my counselling career in a remote community on Northern Vancouver Island working with children and youth who had experienced trauma. This experience formed the foundation of my career as a culturally-sensitive, creative and compassionate therapist. Following this, I had the opportunity to work in a public mental health setting with children, youth, and young adults who were experiencing severe mental health challenges. In this role, I connected with a variety of clients and their families, working with them during their hospital stays and also in the community. I was able to support families as they worked through these challenging times.

I have always been inspired by witnessing the courage people have to work through challenges they face in order to lead healthy and fulfilling lives. I am grateful to work alongside children and families as they navigate their journeys and am passionate about using an attachment-based lens to therapy to repair and strengthen relationships.

As a counsellor, I am committed to connecting with clients with empathy and validation. I believe it is important to meet clients where they are at, and often take an unconventional approach to weaving empirically-proven techniques into therapy sessions, whether that be through art, story-telling, or play. I believe it is important to work with clients to set goals for therapy and work together to learn effective strategies to add to their tool box so that they have the skills to ride the waves of their lives on their own.
